Beach Replenishment Meeting – Postponed

A meeting has been scheduled for Saturday morning, June 22nd at 10:00 am. The meeting will be convened at the Jolly Rogers top deck. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and put together a proposal to request modification of the standard Army Corps. of Engineers beach replenishment design. The standard ACOE beach profile is not friendly to beach goers and surfers alike. Following beach replenishment, an increased number of back injuries have been reported in the communities where beach replenishment had been completed. As a result, some communities have requested that a safer design be used. We would like to work with Mayor Mancini to support a plan that would modify the standard profile. Chris Huch (ALO) Dan Barone and others will be in attendance.

The meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday June 22nd, regarding beach replenishment has been postponed. At today’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Mayor Mancini did not confirm the information written in the SandPaper regarding his thoughts on beach replenishment. He stated that his objective was to get beach replenishment; period. The meeting is tentatively being re-scheduled for July 6th at 10:00 am. It will be an informational meeting only. More to follow regarding location for anyone interested in learning more about this subject.

The Mayor also stated that the Holgate Parking lot will be closed at 10:00 PM and reopened at 5:00 AM. They are still looking for toilet trailers and have been unable to locate any yet. They have asked us to get a feel from the community as to when we would want them to construct the new bathhouse. Is is ok for them to begin work in October or should they wait until November? When the new bathhouse is being built, they will also be constructing a privacy fence along the western perimeter of the parking lot adjacent to the three homes that abut the parking lot.
