Possible Multi-Unit Development in Holgate

READ THE NOTIFICATION LETTER

Property owners within 200 feet have been legally notified of an application to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection asking for a determination on what could be buildable in the undeveloped area between Tebco Terrace, Newport Drive, Steven Avenue and the bay. While this area appears to generally consist of wetlands, the exact nature of this land has to be analyzed by NJDEP. The NJDEP has strict standards for what qualifies as wetlands.

The application is being made on behalf of Davies Construction, Susan Shapiro Barash and Long Beach Township. We suspect that the Township’s involvement is because this property consists of at least 3 paper streets and infrastructure would be required if development could proceed.

The HTA is greatly concerned about any further multi-unit development in Holgate and is reaching out to the Township to determine if LBT and Ocean County funding can be used to preserve this property, similar to Clam Cove. Once there is strong awareness about this project, we will also be looking to gain an in-depth understanding of our members’ attitudes.

Please understand that we will need the Township to be a willing partner in the protection of this land and that it would be highly counterproductive for anyone at this time to publicly speculate that the Township has any other motive. We will inform you as soon as we hear about the Township’s intentions and the availability of funds to potentially preserve the land.
